"Om Mohammad. Mohammad's mother"

Everyday life in Gaza through one woman's eyes

“Om Mohammad. La mare de Mohammad” depicts the everyday life of Sabah, a widow who lives with four of her five children in Khuza'ah, a village on the Gaza Strip near the frontier with Israel. Sabah is the director of the local association Beit Almostuqbul, which works to provide support to women and families in the village, in a society in which there are few opportunities to receive public assistance, and in an agricultural environment in which farms and land have been destroyed by Israeli bulldozers. The documentary follows Sabah over one day of her everyday life, and shows her hopes and desires. The documentary lasts 15 minutes, is produced by the ICIP, and showings begin this January. The premiere will take place on 29th in Olot.

“Om Mohammad. La mare de Mohammad” complements the photographic exhibition “Paraules descalces. Dones fent pau” [Barefoot words. Women making peace] which is also by the photographer and communicator Dani Lagartofernández. This exhibition gives a voice to thirteen women committed to peace and respect for human rights in Israel and Palestine, including the Gaza Strip.

Both projects aim to act as a reminder of the work and strength of women around the world in achieving peace, in accordance with Resolution 1325, the tenth anniversary of which falls this year. With this resolution, the international community recognised the impact of armed conflicts on women and children, and emphasised the role that women can play in conflict resolution and the construction of peace.
