Creation

The plenary of the Parliament of Catalonia approved on November 28, 2007, the law creating the International Catalan Institute for Peace (ICIP).pdf

The ICIP aims to engage in peace research, the training of individuals for field work, observation, in facilitation, mediation and conflict transformation. It also plans to collaborate with international institutions and networks that share common goals. The ICIP can take charge of these tasks directly or through specialized institutions. This is the first public institution of its kind within Spain.

The ICIP is a public entity, with the characteristics of an institution, which retains a specified legal identity. It is related to the Catalan government through the department responsible for promoting peace.

The ICIP is an institution of research, outreach and action, the objectives of which are to promote a culture of peace within the Catalan society itself as well as internationally, and to provide Catalonia with an active role as an agent of peace in the world.
