Functional checks
The functional checks are to verify that the web site functions correctly, that is to say, that the visitor can move around the web site without any difficulty and carry out all the programmed actions. These checks can be made with a specific tool for functional checks of web sites, such as HTMLQA (property of SDL International). This tool compares the original archives and the translated archives and issues reports on the result of the comparison. It compares the number of archives and the labels of format, images, links, etc..

To check the entire web it is useful to prepare a guide with all the steps to be followed and all the elements that have to be checked. For example, if the web site requires the identification of the user and a password, a check must be made of what happens when a correct name and password are entered and what happens when an incorrect name or password are entered.

List of functional checks:

1.
Number of archives
Check that the number of archives in the localized web matches the number of archives in the original web.

2. Different navigators
Check the localized web site with different navigators. It is recommended to go through all the steps of the guide with one navigator and then repeat all the steps with another navigator.

3. Different platforms
Verify the web site in different platforms, various Windows environments, on Macintosh and PC.

4. Internal links
Verify that the links go to the right localized pages.

5. External links
Change the URL references to pages in Catalan. For example, a page in Spanish can refer to pages of information in Spanish in another bilingual web. In the version localized in Catalan the user will want to be referred to the corresponding pages in Catalan.

6.

Names of links
Check that the text of names of internal links matches. For example, if we find the text "Click on Services to see the services of the company", it must be checked that, on making the click, we get a page or section called "Services". It must be corrected if the page is called "The services" (with definite article) or "services" (in lower case) or "Products" (another title).

7. Format labels
Verify that the format labels (bold, underlining, italics) are correct in the localized web.

8. Unicode characters
Verify that there are no problems with the Unicode characters.
