Felicita el Sant Jordi

World Book and Copyright Day

In November 1995 the UNESCO declared April 23rd to be World Book and Copyright Day. This date was chosen because, among other reasons, the festival of Sant Jordi is celebrated in Catalonia. Over the last few years, this declaration has made April 23rd a point of reference for books around the world.

Catalan cultural centres organize many activities to celebrate the festival of the Patron Saint of Catalonia. On April 9th, 1999 the day of Sant Jordi was declared 'Dia Internacional de la Catalunya Exterior' by the Generalitat with the aim to remind Catalans who live abroad of the occasion. The festival is held on the first Sunday after April 23rd.
