About IMHPA
Imhpa is the second phase of the project a European Network for Mental Health Promotion and Mental Disorder Prevention, an international network of expert partners in 30 European countries and 7 international networks and professionals who share the aim of supporting the development and implementation of mental health promotion and mental disorder prevention action across Europe.
This second phase of the project, started in September 2005, was jointly funded by the European Commission and the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia, Spain. Read the IMHPA Final Report |

IMHPA Conference: Joining Forces for Across Europe for Prevention and Promotion in Mental Health, Barcelona, 13-15 September 2007
The conference aimed to support the European Commission Strategy on Mental Health, and build on the mental health promotion and mental disorder prevention components of the WHO Declaration and Action Plan for Mental Health. The conference addressed the following themes:
- Evidence to practice for policies and programmes: outlining the most recent advances to support mental health policies and programmes at the local, national and European levels;
- Implementation: helping develop dissemination, implementation and management plans;
- Financing: supporting strategies for financing action and strengthening management systems across Europe;
- Building capacity and training: strengthening policy and advocacy development, and networki

EC Green Paper on Mental Health
As a step in the process of developing a comprehensive EU strategy on mental health, the European Commission launched a Green Paper on Mental Health in October 2005 for discussion during a consultation period. The green paper proposes initiatives and priorities for a strategy to improve and ensure mental health in the European Community.
The Imhpa Project is mentioned in the green paper as contributing to an improved knowledge and information base on mental health in the EU (page 8), and providing a potential model for an action plan in the document Plan “Mental Health Promotion and Mental Disorder Prevention: A Policy for Europe” (page 13).
