Delivery of the Premi Ramon Margalef in Ecology to Professor Paul Dayton

Pasqual Maragall, President of the Generalitat (Autonomous Government) of Catalonia, conferred the Premi Ramon Margalef in Ecology to Dr. Paul K. Dayton, marine researcher. The solemn ceremony took place at the Palace of the Generalitat in Barcelona, on January 18, 2006.

Professor Paul Dayton was born in Arizona, United States of America in 1941. At present he lives in California, where he carries on his professional activities at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He is considered to be a world-wide major figure in ecology. On the basis of his lifetime achievements, he is recognized as being a pioneer in the field of the ecology of communities in marine and continental waters and terrestrial environments.
