All children born in 2007 and those who are changing schools must pre-register before the deadline set by the Department of Education. You must take the following into account when carrying out this procedure:
You must choose a school. Schools organise visits and open days prior to the pre-registration period to help with this.
Although state schools and state-sanctioned private schools have to accept all applications that they receive before the established deadline, they do not always have sufficient places. For this reason the government has laid down a set of criteria by which to organise applications.
You must go and collect the pre-registration form from a school, the local education office, or your town council. You can also find it on this page.
During the period in which pre-registration is allowed you must submit the following to your first-choice school: the filled-in form, photocopies of your Spanish ID card (DNI), your Family Record Book, and your Individual Medical Card (TSI). If you are claiming priority status for any reason, documentation supporting this claim must be submitted.
Schools publish lists of applications received, including the score each received and a numeric code to be used as a tie breaker. Check that your details are correct and if you find an error, please lodge the relevant complaint.
On the day indicated a draw is carried out to choose the final order which applications will follow. This is how the list of students admitted to each school is drawn up. If other students with better scores have taken the available places at your first-choice school, you will be assigned a place at one of the other schools that you have requested, following the order of preference that you have indicated.
To confirm that you really want the assigned place, you must go through the process of enrolling at the school at which you have been assigned a place. The centre will let you know what documentation you will need to take.
