"Medalles d'Or"The Government has decided to award the Generalitat's Medall d'Or to the Mexican people and to the Fire Department of the Generalitat, as a show of recognition and thanks by Catalan institutions for their extraordinary contributions to the country.
The Generalitat's Medalla d'Or is the highest honour which the Government confers and it expresses the Government of the Generalitat's recognition to persons who have given eminent and extraordinary services to Catalonia in the political, social, economic, cultural or scientific fields. Since it was created in 1978, it has been awarded to 50 personalities and five organisations; in the past year, Doctor Mosès Broggi and actor Montserrat Carulla received it. The award ceremony is held on 11 September in the Palau de la Generalitat.
The Mexican people have been awarded for the generosity, courage and fraternity in welcoming Republican exile. Seventy years after Republican exile began, the Government of Catalonia shows its great appreciation and admiration for the people of Mexico due to their exceptional generosity, courage and fraternity which made it possible for the Catalan nation to persist with dignity. The Medalla of the Government of Catalonia recognises the extraordinary services provided to the country in the political, social, economic, cultural or scientific fields.
The Fire Department of the Generalitat will receive the award due to the vocation, dedication and generation to serve the people, which is what has enabled emergencies, in better or worse circumstances, to be resolved in a technically competent manner, while having the human warmth required for the victims of an accident.
